FAQ
What is CleanPlate AI?
CleanPlate AI is an online tool that removes people, pedestrians, and vehicles from a video clip and rebuilds the empty background behind them — automatically, with no masking or rotoscoping. It runs the open-weight LTX-2.3 Clean Plate IC-LoRA model released by Lightricks. Upload a clip, wait a couple of minutes, download the same shot with nobody in it.
What is a clean plate?
In VFX, a clean plate is a version of a shot with no actors or moving subjects — used for compositing, object removal, and background replacement. Traditionally you either reshoot the empty scene or paint people out frame by frame. This tool generates the clean plate directly from the original footage.
Is it free?
Yes — 1 clip per day (up to 5 seconds) free, no signup, no watermark. Credit packs unlock longer clips (up to 14s) and more runs: $8.90 for 60 seconds of output, delivered instantly as a code, no account required.
What footage works best?
Shots where people are walking through the scene — streets, plazas, lobbies, landmarks — with visible background around them. Both static and moving-camera shots work. It struggles when a subject fills most of the frame (like a close-up interview), because there is not enough background left to rebuild.
How long does it take?
Usually 2–3 minutes for a 5-second clip. The model regenerates every frame, keeping the camera motion and static background while dropping the moving subjects.
Is the result pixel-identical to my footage?
No — the output is an AI reconstruction of your scene, not a surgical erase. Structure, layout, camera motion, and lighting are preserved, but fine details like small sign text can shift. For social content and travel edits it looks great; for pixel-locked VFX compositing, treat it as a fast first-pass plate.
Can I use the output commercially?
Yes, for most users. The underlying model is licensed under the LTX-2 Community License, which allows commercial use for individuals and companies under $10M annual revenue. You own your footage and are responsible for having the right to edit it — see our terms for the full acceptable-use policy.
